Für Theresa

Some years ago, when I was still teaching at music school, I had a young girl who wished to play some spanish pieces on the guitar. There are some styles (e.g. "Malagueña) in which it is necessary to play triplets (arpeggio triplets for the right hand). She was working hard to get the triplets done and sounding fluently and she got better and better. In the class concert she took courage to present her work and play it in front of an audience. She had some problems with the triplets and had to stop and start several times again. So I decided to write a piece especially for her and the triplets - to improve technics while making music instead of repeating boring exercises. I tried to keep the shapes of chords in the higher positions not to make it too complicated.

"Für Theresa" is a study for the right hand. The 4th beat of the triplet bars is a quaver to relax the hand before starting the triplets again. In the second part I turned the triplets (from p-i-m to m-i-p) to get fexibility of the hand and later making feel the normal p-i-m- easier.

If you are interested in more ways how to practise the piece, feel free to contact me!

Have fun tripleting and all the best!
